Every year, humans slaughter trillions of crabs, lobsters, and shrimp, and abuse millions more in the pet and vivisection industries. Crustaceans are the most killed animals for food, yet among the least protected. Crab and Lobster Advocacy Worldwide (CLAW) is here to change that.
Why Crustaceans?
Like us, crustaceans are complex animals who can recognize one another, problem-solve, and even work in teams, like hermit crabs performing an elaborate shell exchange or lobsters walking claw-in-claw across the seafloor. These animals feel pain: scientists have found that they not only avoid it, but also nurse wounds when injured. But because they cannot go into shock, they feel every agonizing second when they are boiled alive or ripped apart for food.
Our Campaigns
We run hard-hitting campaigns to end the worst abuses of crustaceans. We’ve mobilized tens of thousands of supporters to stop the cruel hermit crab pet trade through our Plight of the Hermies campaign, and now we’re expanding our work to crabs, lobsters, and shrimp killed for food. With your support, we’ll fight the most blatant greenwashing schemes that trick caring consumers into buying crustacean products, and we’ll work to thwart the live-boiling of lobsters and crabs.
